Loch Shore Drizzle

Mara in cream chunky cable-knit sweater, forest green light waterproof shell jacket, dark wash denim relaxed straight-leg jeans and black lined waterproof leather lace-up walking boots with lug sole.

Mara is drawn wearing these pieces — an illustration, styled as the items shown, not a photograph of them.

Model: Mara — landscape architect, Zürich

Why it works

The palette follows the landscape without copying it. Forest green on the shell echoes wet bracken and pine, cream wool reads like the pale sky over the water, and dark denim, black boots and a navy beanie anchor it all in quiet, deep tones. There are no warm accents and nothing that shouts, just a clear light-to-dark stack from the collar down.

The proportions are simple and walkable. A light shell sits easily over the chunky cable, the straight leg falls cleanly to the boot, and the boot's sole takes on mud and shingle without complaint. The textures do the talking: slick nylon against deep cable wool, rigid denim, and waxed-looking waterproof leather. That is the Scottish autumn in miniature, where soft layers keep you warm and hard layers keep you dry.

For Mara it works the way her parks do. Each element has one job and does it well, and every piece is the kind she would wear for a decade. The shell packs away when the drizzle lifts, and the sweater carries the look on its own at the pub afterwards.

How it goes together

A rain-ready lochside walk built from five honest pieces: a forest green shell over a cream cable-knit, dark straight jeans, black waterproof boots and a navy beanie against the damp.
